Flying Frenchmen of Woonsocket

The Flying Frenchmen of Woonsocket were a Northern RI amateur powerhouse in the 1940-41 season. Many French Canadians suited up for the squad including former MSC alums Rollie Lemire, Gus Galipeau, Georges Belanger, Andre Tremblay and Dick Rondeau. They competed in the 2nd annual National Amateur Hockey Association championship in 1941 at Boston Garden by beating the RI Scarlets 4-2 to settle the amateur hockey championship of the state. The tournament consisted of the defending champion "97" Club of Boston (MA), Lewiston Cyclones (ME), Springfield Braves (MA), Notre Dame Hockey Club (ME), New York Tigers (NY), Boston Junior Olympics (MA), Metropolitan New York All Stars (NY), and Boston Reds (MA). They bowed out in the semi-finals to the Junior Olympics 11-3. They also faced off against the Yale Yaks, Cochituate Hockey Club (MA), Army Plebes (NY), Needham Hockey Club (MA), Walpole Amateurs (MA) and college Frosh on their schedule.
